Road construction, aviation infrastructure and more
The term soil stabilization generally describes much of our work. However, our specific applications vary depending on the needs.
Our projects include the construction of roads, resource access roads, country roads, forestry roads, airstrips, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, heliports, platforms, parking lots, driveways, loading and storage areas, as well as various recreational facilities.
Road repair and rehabilitation
Traditional asphalt-based road reconstruction methods are simple, but extremely expensive and ineffective. The most common and least expensive solution is overlay , which involves applying a new layer of asphalt over the already deteriorated old one. This approach provides a fresh, uniform appearance, but it only masks the underlying problems, which quickly reappear on the surface. The second traditional method is called remove and replace ( R&R ). As the name suggests, this involves removing (milling) the existing asphalt and replacing it with a new layer. Although it offers superior durability compared to overlay, this approach remains both wasteful and ineffective for two main reasons:
- Asphalt residue (crushed or recycled asphalt) is a relatively high-quality material when properly reused. Just because a surface is cracked or degraded does not mean that the material itself cannot be reclaimed and reused. However, milling, transporting, and disposing of defective asphalt involves considerable costs and time.
- Furthermore, this approach does not address the actual cause of the failure, which is usually found in the roadway subgrade. Instead of correcting the underlying problems, the R&R method only provides a short-term solution to long-term problems, leading to premature maintenance needs in the early years of the road's life.
Using a mechanized process called cold in place asphalt recycling (CIR), Solecovia makes it possible to:
- Eliminate unnecessary costs and reduce time associated with the removal and disposal of failed asphalt.
- Address base failures by directly incorporating asphalt residue (a high-quality material) into the foundation at a 1-to-1 ratio.
In other words, for a 3-inch layer of asphalt, the recycler pulverizes a total depth of 6 inches, creating a homogeneous, solid and durable structure.
The Solecovia cold-in-place asphalt recycling process represents a much more efficient, economical and ecological solution for the rehabilitation of damaged asphalt roads.
Potholes: A global problem, a definitive solution
Potholes are one of the most costly and recurring issues affecting modern roads.
They appear quickly, weaken infrastructure, and cause millions in repair expenses every year.
Why asphalt roads deteriorate
Asphalt, made from petroleum-based binders, is vulnerable to heat, cold, and water.
- Microcracks appear as early as the first year.
- Water seeps in, freezes, or softens the bitumen.
- The structure deforms, collapses, and forms potholes.
On average: cracks appear after 6 to 12 months, potholes after 2 to 3 years, and the road becomes unsafe within 5 to 7 years without maintenance.
In cold climates, freeze-thaw cycles cause the pavement to crack and break apart.
In hot climates, heat and tropical rains soften the bitumen.
Result: cracks, infiltration, and recurring deterioration.
Costly and temporary repairs
Each repair requires lane closures, cutting, cleaning, and compaction, often for only a temporary result.
The root causes of the problem, soil instability and the vulnerability of the bituminous binder, are never addressed.
The Solecovia solution: the end of potholes
The technology used by Solecovia is based on an eco-friendly mineral polymer binder that stabilizes the soil in depth and prevents the formation of cracks or water infiltration.
- Each soil particle is encapsulated in a waterproof and hydrophobic matrix.
- The material resists water, freezing, and heat.
- The structure becomes monolithic yet slightly flexible, absorbing thermal variations.
- The treatment penetrates up to 23 cm deep, creating a dense and stable layer.
Result: no infiltration, no cracking, no potholes.
Proven and eco-friendly resistance
Tested from -40 °C to +70 °C, the Solecovia technology maintains its integrity without cracking or deformation.
Free of bitumen and hydrocarbons, it reduces CO₂ emissions and energy consumption.
Validated performance
The results have been confirmed by accredited independent laboratories:
AASHTO, ASTM International, CTL Group (Chicago), and Behnke Materials Engineering (Michigan).
Key findings:
- No deformation up to 70 °C.
- No cracking after 100 freeze-thaw cycles.
- Total waterproofing, with zero water infiltration.
- Proven mechanical stability through Hamburg Wheel-Track testing.
Where asphalt cracks, deforms, and wears out, Solecovia creates a solid, waterproof, and durable surface that resists water, freezing, heat, and heavy traffic.
A road built with Solecovia does not crack, sink, or form potholes, even under the most extreme conditions.
